It is going to be a fun-packed summer of incredible musical opportunities for Bastrop County residents, and it will draw in a crowd from around the state. The series, which spans from June to August, includes three concerts with their own unique sounds.

Community Garden co-owner, Aaron Pyka said, “We are extremely excited to host this music series event put on by T.J. Finn and Barry Rogers. This is the type of event that will add to the many reasons why folks will fall in love with Bastrop for years to come!”

The concert series was assembled by myself, T.J. Finn, and one of the best publicists in the country, Barry Rogers with Wayne PR. Barry and I had so much fun working on the 2021 Country Rewind Tour together with Center Stage Magazine, which brought country music icons, Daryll Worley, Brian White, and Andy Griggs to Bastrop, that we decided to create our own music series which we hope to continue for years to come.

“T.J. Finn makes things happen.” Says Barry Rogers, “She is one of the most competent people I know. I really enjoy working with her, I think the artists and the audience are going to have a great time!”

The title sponsor for the series is Garage Oil Spirits- American Badass Whiskey. Concert attendees, over age twenty-one, will have the opportunity to get a taste of this amazing new brand of whiskey! Genesis Aesthetics and Functional Medicine is also a major sponsor and concert attendees will get the opportunity to discover just what they have to offer. Additional sponsors include, Visit Bastrop, Heart of Texas Chamber of Commerce, The Heart of Bastrop Talk Show, Corvette Invasion, Hampton Inn & Suites-Bastrop, Center Stage Magazine, Steam Magazine, and The Elgin Courier.

In August of 2020, Bastrop was designated by the state of Texas as a “Music Friendly Community” and Bastrop County is certainly making its mark on the music industry here in Texas. When we put together the music series, Barry and I made the stipulation that we had to include a local artist in each show. We have done so, and concert goers are going to love the artists we have assembled. Bastrop County is brimming with musical talent and Visit Bastrop has a assembled a music committee to continue to enhance the music industry in this area.

Christy Hunn with Visit Bastrop is the music friendly community liaison to the Texas Music Office. “The music friendly community advisory committee is in place to help Bastrop promote our diverse music industry and help it grow by fostering networking and educational opportunities for musicians, venues, and affiliates with the Texas Music Office and other music friendly communities.” said Christy, “If you are a musician, or music industry affiliate please visit us at www.visitbastrop.com or on our Facebook page at Bastrop Music Community and find out how you can get involved.”

Christy recently assisted in putting together a music friendly episode of The Heart of Bastrop Talk Show which is hosted by myself, T.J. Finn, and Bastrop Mayor Connie Schroeder. The show has just finished it’s 4th season and currently has two summer special episodes which can be viewed at the website www.theheartofbastrop.com or on our YouTube channel.

One of the summer specials includes the film friendly edition of the talk show with celebrity interviews including Barry Corbin who recently appeared on an episode of Yellowstone, and iconic Hollywood leading lady, Ruta Lee. The music friendly episode includes many interviews with local and national music professionals and includes musical performances by J Edwards, Hailey Tuck and Colin Guera, Lisa Holcomb, and County Judge Candidate Dock Jackson. You will also have the opportunity to hear from some of the musical talent in the Sizzlin Summer Nights Music Series.

Star-Studded Musical Lineups

Saturday - June 18, 2022 - 7:00 p.m.

The kick-off concert for the series features local singer/songwriter Winter Dawn opening for Nashville recording artist, J Edwards with special guest Austin Gilliam, followed by the night’s headliner and American Idol superstar, Bo Bice. It is going to be a night of Southern Rock with some deep country undertones. The concert kicks off at 7:00 pm with a special guest who is going to introduce you to the music committee!

Winter Dawn opened for the Country Rewind Tour in Bastrop in 2021. She is a young local singer and songwriter whose career is starting to really take off. The sky is the limit for this little musical dynamo. Winter said, “ I am so excited to be a part of the Sizzlin Summer Nights Concert Series. I can’t wait to open up for J Edwards and Bo Bice. They are both so talented and it’s a real honor to take the stage before them. I encourage everyone to come out and see the concert.”

J Edwards, who can only be described as a mixture of Merle Haggard, Chris Stapleton, and Bob Seger, has a raspy, old whisky voice that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. It’s like the blues met county and they made a rock to shake the rafters. J Edwards, who has played in Bastrop in the past, said, “We cant wait to get back to Bastrop. It is always a great place to stop and play, There’s lots of history there and great fans who love music. I am really looking forward to this collaboration with Bo Bice. There may be some big surprises on stage that night!”

Fans adored Bo Bice on American Idol and now he is rocking the stage in Bastrop with an acoustic performance. After Idol, Bo went on to sing lead for the legendary, Blood Sweat and Tears, touring the country for five years. Bo has used his platform to do a lot of work for Veterans. Bo is extremely talented, and we are very fortunate that he was able to be part of our first Sizzlin Summer Nights Concert Series.

“I am looking forward to performing in Bastrop.” Bo Bice, said, “We are going to have a great time and you’re invited!”

Saturday - July 16, 2022 7:00 p.m.

The second concert of the series falls of the weekend of Corvette Invasion! You’re going to get to enjoy some sweet rides rolling up to this concert! The July concert opens with the soul searing acoustic tunes of local sing-songwriter Heidi Little. Heidi will be followed by the Bob Mauldin Band and the night’s headliner will be Grammy winning artist Jo-El Sonnier and the Louisiana Yard Dogs. It will be a night of Ragin Cajun and Country fun!

Bob Mauldin, who is best known for being the host and producer of the TV series Expedition Texas, has been performing for almost 20 years. You will love the country twang in Bob’s voice and it’s like a tall glass of sweet tea on a summer day. “Bastrop has been a favorite stop for our TV show, Expedition Texas, over the years.” Said Bob, “I’m excited to finally be able to bring my music to this great event, especially opening for the Grammy-winning artist Jo-El Sonnier. I’ve been talking to Jo-El and we may have a surprise off two in store for y’all!”

Jo-El Sonnier has is a true County and Cajun music icon. I remember dancing to his tunes in the honky-tonks in the Beaumont area growing up. Jo-El has played with so many of the greatest musicians over the years like Johnny Cash and Eddie Rabbit. “I’m so thrilled to be a part of the Sizzlin’ Summer Nights Concert Series in beautiful Bastrop Texas. I hope everyone will come out and join the fun, eat some good food and listen to some great music. “ said Jo-El, “I’ll be performin’ my Country Radio hits like “No More One More Time” and “Tearstained Letter” along with some traditional Cajun French songs. There will be music to make everyone happy! Hope to see you all there!”

Saturday - August 20, 2022 7:00 p.m.

The final concert of the summer ends the series with a memory-making country music bash! No sign of cooling down with this sizzlin hot lineup! We have four performers who will bring down the house. Favorite local artists, The Wyatt Ellis Band, will kick off the night. Followed by americana storyteller, Aaron LaCombe. Then Texas Red-Dirt Artist, Brody Caster takes the stage before headliner Allie Colleen.

Rising country music star, Aaron LaCombe, who is best known for the viral video of his song “Uncle Carl”, really knows how to tell a story with his music. We are thrilled for Aaron to join us for the final concert of the season! “I’m excited to have been invited to Bastrop for this show and honored to be included in this great lineup!” said Aaron.

Brody Caster, another rising country music star, has some good old Texas red-dirt music in store for his fans. “We’re super excited to be a part of this summer music series in Bastrop TX!” said Brody, “This community is unbelievably supportive of live music, and we are looking forward to August. See y’all on the 20th!”

Country Artist, Allie Colleen, who has been preforming since she was 14 will finish off the night with an acoustic performance. Allie was born and raised in Owasso, Oklahoma, but she is currently residing Nashville where she works as a full-time touring/recording artist and songwriter. This sweet country voice is just what’s needed to fend off the summer heat and send us all into the fall.
