Bastrop American Legion Hosts Benefit for Kendall Alvarado

Twenty-one-year-old Bastrop County native, Kendall Alvarado, was born with Polycystic Kidney Disease and she has suffered with the side affects her entire life. Five years ago, Kendall, who is now studying nursing, had a kidney transplant, but now the kidney has stopped functioning and in order to be well enough to achieve her dream of becoming a nurse, Kendall needs another kidney.



Polycystic Kidney Disease is a genetic disorder that causes cysts to grow inside the kidneys. Unlike the usually harmless kidney cysts that can form in the kidneys later in life, Polycystic Kidney Disease can change the shape of the kidneys including making them larger and can lead to kidney failure.


Polycystic kidney disease can also lead to other complications or problems including high blood pressure, cyst in the liver, and problems with blood vessels in the heart and brain.


The Bastrop American Legion is hosting a fundraiser to help Kendall receive a new kidney transplant. The fundraiser, which is a series of events, will be held at the Bastrop American Legion Post 533 located at 3003 Loop 150 East in Bastrop on Saturday July 31st, 2021. The day will include a a poker run, car wash, live music, breakfast Tacos, Fajita plates, door prizes, a live auction and a 50/50 split raffle.


The day’s events start at 9:00a.m with registration for a Poker Run. The departure for the Poker Run is 10:00 a.m. and the cost of participation is $10 for passengers and $20 for riders. There are four stops on the Poker Run; 1stop-Ronnie’s One Oak, 2nd-Lake House, 3rd-Elgin VFW, 4th-Paige Icehouse. The poker run will end back at the Bastrop American Legion. There will also be a car wash from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 .m. The cost of the car wash is $10 per car, $15 per truck and $5 per motorcycle.




The day will be filled with entertainment; Trophy Husband’s Band will be performing from noon until 2:00 p.m. followed by the Wyatt Ellis Band from 4:00 p.m. and the Watts Brothers Band will finish out the day’s entertainment from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The day will also be filled with delicious food and drink; $2 Breakfast Tacos will be available starting at 8:00 a.m., and $10 fajita plates will be available at 1:00 p.m. and don’t miss out on the $5 red beer and mimosas.
